Faerie Worlds

Member Blogs

Hello all! I am back with a short review of Faerie Worlds Festival hosted in Veneta, Oregon.

Faerie Worlds is kind of like a Renn Faire on some sort of psychedelic drug… I showed up in a little face paint and glitter and a fairy shirt, as I only found out we were going a little bit before the fact, and figured there would be plenty of “Norms” there.

Wrong!

Overheard

Member Blogs

One of the great things about running errands is that sometimes you overhear a snippet of someone’s conversation and it can be a little funny. I wanted to share two recent ones with you. This is the one thing Ilike about cell phone use in public.

“Raisinettes!” (old man outside CVS, talking to someone in a car)

(Man holding a stuffed “Yertle the Turtle” doll) “What’s a Yertle the Turtle? I never read the book. He looks like a more benevolent version of Gamera.”

Please contribute.

Dark Knight Countdown!!!

Member Blogs, Videos

I cannot believe that the Dark Knight trailer isn’t up here yet.

Though dubious about Heath Ledger originally, I am now rabidly awaiting the release of this movie. It looks as though even as they are updating and changing storylines, Nolan and crew have kept some of my favorite characteristics from the comic books and graphic novels (Especially The Killing Joke story arc) specifically regarding the Joker.

I’m not sure what I think about a blond Harvey Dent… but I guess we’ll see, huh?

One of my favorite things, not sure if it’s a promotional site, or one made by a fan, but see if you can “read between the lines” of this fantastically creepy and fun webpage.

So far, my favorite Joker photo is found on IMDB,

So what do y’all think? Love it or loathe it already?

Count Olaf at a more sinister angle.

I took both of these pictures on my phone, so the quality is poor. I’m trying to save up for a digital camera.

Your Beloved Count Olaf

Member Blogs

So, I’ve been sculpting little dolls and doll heads, and since Larkthewind is visiting, I made a Count Olaf doll for her. It’s probably the 6th sculpture I’ve ever made… not counting crafty elves on ornaments for Christmas.

His face is too round, but I’m overall pleased with how he turned out.

Budding musician

I love this picture.

This is Wyatts violin teacher, Lisa….well, ok, he’s not taking  lessons this year, but he took them last year and may resume next year!

We are lucky to have her since she is so awesome and does so well with the kids (and at $15 a lesson…we can afford it!)

This was taken at our Grange Christmas Bazaar. She always does a little music class with local kids at community functions.

Shameless baby picture, I know….but it’s the holidays and I’m all sentimental!

Creation Museum Opening Season

Member Blogs

I won’t drag this out seeing as how there are such diverse feelings about creation, even among those who believe in it.

We had been interested in seeing what kind of job these folks would do…would it be lame and embarrassing or too commercially slick? So we stopped by on our way south with a little apprehension.

Critique please!

Member Blogs

I haven’t drawn in a long time. And my favorite thing to do- portrait in pencil has always in my opinion been a bit of a sham.

I usually have to project the image onto paper or graph to get the face right. I can never quite get it accurate, it  seems.

So, the other night- I decided to go for it- and since the only face laying around a 11pm (that would sit still) was mine- I did a self portrait.

How’d I do? I didn;t finish the hair- I’m not blond, I know- I just got tired and stopped- but any critiscism on the face would be welcome. I only used one soft lead pencil and no erasers or blending stumps. I usually like to use hard lead pencils and layer up to an Ebony pencil thn blend, blend, blend. But this time my goal was just hardcore no-limits drawing.

(i just snapped this photo for reference…)

Bridgette’s first geocaching adventure

Member Blogs

Debbie and I went camping with family this weekend in the Allegany National Forest region of northern Pennsylvania.  In addition to spending a lot of good time with the family, we were able to take Bridgette (who just turned 4-months old!) on her first geocaching adventure.  Hopefully it’s the first of many such adventures to come!

Bill is Gone

Member Blogs

It is with great sadness and a heavy heart that I bring you this news. Bill Reiter (Billtheleprechaun) passed away last night due to complications from a seizure. Bill was my dear friend and brother and I will miss him more than words can say. The Reiter family appreciates all thoughts and prayers. Bill loved this community that Josh has built and always spoke of it as one of the few true bastions of real thought on the internet. For those of you who live in the area, no service arrangements have been made as of yet but if you would like to be updated on service arrangements feel free to email me at cdoody27@roadrunner.net

The State… Reunite?

Member Blogs

From Variety:

Comedy Central has greenlit the pilot for “Michael Ian Black Doesn’t Understand,” a scripted showcase for the pop-culture gadfly.

Insiders said the show will feature Black’s trademark poker-faced irony as he comments on a range of pop-culture topics, including one hot-button topic each episode. Show will incorporate sketch comedy, field segments and studio bits from Black, many of them scripted.

Black is exec producing with “Kids in the Hall” exec producer Jim Biederman. Michael Showalter, who appeared in “Reno 911!: Miami” with Black, is co-exec producing.

Black manager Ted Schachter is attached as producer.

Black had earlier collaborated with Comedy Central on another sketch comedy show, “Stella,” which aired in 2005. But the comedian is best known for his sarcastic riffs on VH1 franchises such as “I Love the ’80s” and “I Love the ’90s”

Black also wrote and directed “Wedding Daze,” an Isla Fisher comedy produced by GreeneStreet Films that will be released this summer by MGM.

Pilot marks Comedy Central’s second live-action show in a week featuring a returning Comedy Central performer; last week, the net announced it was developing Lewis Black’s faux-courtroom show “The Root of All Evil.”

Now this doesn’t necessarily mean anything for sure, and The State isn’t mentioned once in the article (although Reno 911 is), but with Michael Ian Black starting a new sketch comedy show, who else would he get but his old State buddies?  I tell you, this could be brilliant!

Rifftrax’s New Look

Member Blogs, Rifftrax

Rifftrax’s has updated there site. Now you can rank the Rfftrax. Find Rifftrax by Release Date, Movie Title, User Rating, and Genre. Plus a Gift Shop with Dvd and T-shirts and Now you have to setup an account to buy anything. But what i really found intresting was in the fun area. Under Fun Stuff they have a section for Videos, Games, Fan Art, and Fan Riffs. So it just made me wonder are they going to let people submit there own Fan Riff to put on there website. Anyways i like the new look and i was just wondering what you guys think.

P.s. i saw the trialer to Troll 2 and it looks like a cross between Hobgoblins and Ernest Scared Stupid. Should be good.
